TAB Partners,
The next county budget workshop is next Monday, July 11, at 9:30AM.
So far, the budget package for the meeting has not been published, but we will analyse it when the time comes and adjust the "TAB Proposal" if needed. We are still calling for flat millage, more cuts from the Sheriff, and a sell-off of unused county property.
There have been a few changes in assumptions - most notably in the valuation decline and the accounting for FRS changes in the Sheriff's budget, and we have learned more about how the "$45M budget hole" is arrived at. See the details in "County Budget Update - July 5".
In other news, the Palm Beach Post is becoming a voice for the taxpayer. Jennifer Sorentrue explores the Sheriff's interpretation of "exigent operational necessity" regarding raises in PBSO ("Palm Beach County, Sheriff at Odds over Raises") and editorials by Rhonda Swan take the county to task for frivolous budget cut proposals ("First, Cut the Scare Tactics"), and raises during the recession ("Administrators not Immune").
Please plan on attending next Monday's meeting, phoning, or sending an email to the commissioners and ask them not to raise our taxes again. We will be providing an update and renewed call to action towards the end of this week.
Thanks,
Fred Scheibl
